Overview

What You’ll Be Doing


As the Director of Grants, you will lead the design, management, and oversight of the program’s grants portfolio, ensuring effective, compliant, and impactful delivery of funds to local partners and organizations. You will oversee the full grants lifecycle from solicitation and evaluation through award, implementation, and close-out, managing both financial and programmatic compliance with donor regulations.

 

You will play a pivotal role in building transparent systems, mentoring grants officers, and working closely with technical teams and grantees to ensure grants advance project objectives.  The Director of Grants will also strengthen the capacity of grantee organizations, particularly smaller or informal entities, to enhance their accountability, sustainability, and ability to drive change in challenging and conflict-affected environments.

 

This role requires not only technical expertise in grants and financial management but also strategic thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to engage with diverse partners to ensure that funds are deployed effectively and contribute to lasting impact.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full grant lifecycle, including solicitation, pre-award due diligence, negotiation, implementation, monitoring, and close-out.
  • Develop, update, and enforce grants management systems, manuals, and procedures to ensure compliance with/and US Government regulations.
  • Convene and lead the Grants Review Committee, facilitating transparent decision-making and documentation of awards.
  • Supervise and mentor the grants management team, building their capacity to manage complex portfolios.
  • Provide direct support and technical assistance to grantees on compliance, reporting, and organizational strengthening.
  • Collaborate with technical and MEL teams to ensure grants are aligned with project objectives and performance frameworks.
  • Monitor grantee performance and financial management, conducting regular reviews and ensuring timely disbursements and deliverables.
  • Structure and manage grants with informal, unregistered, or emerging organizations, applying creative approaches to support local actors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management, international development, or a related field. Advanced training in grants or financial management preferred.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in grants and financial management within international development, including at least 5 years managing Grants Under Contract (GUCs).
  • Proven expertise in full grants lifecycle management, compliance systems, and financial oversight for large and complex grant portfolios (e.g., $2M–$40M annually).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams and build the capacity of staff and partners in grants management.
  • Strong knowledge of US Government rules and regulations; experience with other major donors (e.g., Save the Children, Plan International, GIZ) highly desirable.
  • Experience managing grants in high-risk and conflict-affected programming environments.
  • Fluency in English and Burmese; strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively across teams and with diverse partners.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills; ability to operate effectively in fragile, politically complex, and crisis environments.
