Cadmus is an international consultancy that works on issues related to energy, water, the environment and resilience. Cadmus is seeking a growth-oriented Principal to manage and lead our International Energy and Climate team. A successful Principal will be able to set the direction for the team’s next chapter of growth, lead multi-million dollar sales opportunities, oversee a portfolio of project work, and provide technical guidance on project delivery.

The team works at the intersection of energy, climate mitigation, and resilience. The team has active projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and is sought-out especially for its expertise in small island developing states (SIDS). We help our clients—multilateral development banks, bilateral development assistance agencies, national governments, power sector regulators, and utilities, among others—address and adapt to the impacts of climate change by improving electricity sector governance, increasing the deployment of distributed energy resources (DER) and electric vehicles, expanding electricity services in emerging markets, and improving the resilience of energy systems to withstand unexpected shocks. Through legal, policy, regulatory and economic analysis, careful planning, and robust stakeholder engagement, we help governments, regulators, utilities, and distributed energy resource developers and operators devise effective energy and climate strategies, policies, regulations, and programs to deliver results.

Example projects include:

• Leading the implementation of a multi-year energy resilience and demand aggregation program for distributed solar PV and battery storage
• Serving as the lead regulatory and mini-grid experts on a multi-year vehicle to support national governments with energy access
• Supporting electricity regulators with developing distributed renewable energy regulations and tariffs and understanding the cost-effectiveness of different options
• Developing energy and resilience policies for national governments
• Supporting the development of regional and national electric vehicle deployment strategies across a suite of SIDS
• Leading multiple climate resilience modeling scenarios and stakeholder processes to support planning associated with sea level rise
• Developing a best practice guide on cost-reflective rate design for electricity regulators.

• Serve as the team leader responsible for managing and achieving team performance targets and contributing to firm-wide performance metrics
• Work with the Cadmus executive team to set and implement a growth strategy for the team, including approaches to expand offerings beyond the core portfolio
• Lead capture and business development activities. Establish, maintain and expand long-term relationships with key clients and industry leaders.
• Provide management oversight, technical direction and quality control across the team’s portfolio
• Directly manage selected contracts, including overseeing and managing project teams and subcontractors, taking responsibility for meeting or exceeding client needs on-time and on-budget
• Foster professional growth among team staff, enabling them to contribute to team success and advance their career goals
• Represent Cadmus at client meetings, events, networking groups and through social media channels, including by providing thought leadership content on pertinent topics

Required Qualifications:

• A Graduate degree in relevant field (e.g., energy systems or management, international development, public policy/administration, business administration, economics, law, sustainability). 
• A minimum of 5+ years in successful business development closely aligned with the team’s work and clients, as described above.
• A minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible management experience on international energy and climate change projects closely aligned with the team’s work and clients, as described above.
• Team Leader and/or Chief of Party roles for projects >$1million and successful oversight of geographically distributed project teams with complex delivery objectives.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible key technical contributions in one of the following areas or a closely aligned area: electricity sector and distributed energy resources technology, policy, regulation, and economics; energy access policy and regulation; clean energy program design; and/or energy resilience.
• A proven record of managing project portfolios and teams, financial and personnel management, leadership and decision-making.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team; to engage with a broad range of governmental, non-governmental, and private sector actors and institutions across sectors.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including being an articulate speaker and strong listener.
• Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills.
• Desire to work in a growth-oriented, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time internationally in developing areas is required (post-COVID).
• Professional proficiency in English and one other language, preferably Spanish or French.
• Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States as a U.S Perm Resident or U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Experience:

• Familiarity with both USAID and multi-lateral development bank program cycles, programming, and proposal and project management requirements.
• Experience quickly starting up project activities in multiple countries with varied scopes of work.
• Experience living and working in the Caribbean.
