Our Homeland Security Sector seeks candidates to support Department of Homeland Security (DHS) clients that operate in the areas of science and technology, operational experimentation, policy analysis, and doctrine development. Successful candidates will have at least one year of demonstrated professional experience in one or more of the following: design, control, execution, and evaluation of homeland security exercises or operational assessments, policy assessment and analysis, policy-focused research, policy or report writing, or other related experience in the homeland security or public policy fields. Some domestic travel is likely required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research, analysis, operational assessment, doctrine development, stakeholder outreach, and program coordination in support of homeland security clients
  • Lead the design, control, execution, and evaluation of homeland security operational assessments and coordinate stakeholder participation in interagency events
  • Lead the production of documentation, memoranda, briefings, and presentations
  • Distill complex information from multiple sources into analytical assessments, reports, memoranda, and presentations tailored for senior public and private sector clients
  • Apply and coordinate analytic methodologies and principles
  • Provide strong attention to detail and apply writing skills to create reports, assessments, and other written deliverables in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Help lead/manage the work of analysts on client delivery team
  • Help define project objectives and strategic direction for projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in political science, public policy, social sciences, journalism, homeland security, emergency management, or other relevant field
  • Minimum five years of professional experience, with one year of relevant professional experience providing writing and research support to policy-related projects; preference given to those with experience in the homeland security space and emergency management (Master’s Degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • Candidates selected may be subject to a security investigation and, if required, should be able to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Outstanding research, analysis, organization, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Knowledge of homeland security and emergency management concepts
  • Demonstrated professional experience supporting exercises, operational assessments, technology demonstrations, or similar events
  • Demonstrated professional experience providing writing and research support, preferably to a client in the homeland security field
  • Proficiency in relevant software programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to self-edit and quality-check all original work, as well as the work of fellow team members
  • Preferred candidates will have at least one of the following:
    ­ -Experience designing, controlling, executing, and evaluating exercise programs or operational assessments
    ­ -Experience providing writing and research support for DHS stakeholders
    ­ -Recent DHS Suitability or experience conducting work at a DHS government facility
