Policy mandates, climate initiatives, and technological advancements in distributed generation are fueling dramatic growth in the clean energy sector across the nation. Cadmus works hand in hand with public and private agencies and corporations, providing technical and policy consulting services on a variety of intersecting renewable energy issues. From analyzing new solar incentive models to helping electrical inspectors understand the latest in photovoltaic (PV) technology, Cadmus is at the forefront of the renewable energy industry; our consulting services frequently inform technical, policy, and other decisions that have a real impact on the energy industry. For example, our staff provides guidance and support on both large- and small-scale projects, analyzes the performance of battery systems, conducts feasibility and potential studies, evaluates and administers incentive programs, and conducts project due diligence.

We are seeking a motivated, passionate, personable, and detail-oriented individual to join our industry-leading Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Team as an Intern. You will work closely with the Team to provide coordination support for Cadmus’ growing solar quality assurance (QA) practice, as well as provide research and analysis support for various other renewable energy projects. Our QA team provides inspection, testing, and due diligence services for state agencies, government entities, municipalities, and private clients, and our coordinators are a key part of that process. Specifically, you would ensure that our inspectors meet the expectations of our clients and that day-to-day QA work is completed on time and within budget. For research and analysis support, our team provides engineering, policy, and economic consulting to a number of state regulatory agencies, public utilities, and private companies, and you would be supporting technical and financial analyses for a variety of clients.

Given the blend of research/analysis- and coordination-related responsibilities, you should be well organized, detail-oriented, personable, and familiar with the basic concepts of solar PV and other renewable energy technologies. This internship will expose you to a wide variety of consulting projects.

As an Intern on the Renewable Energy team, you would be responsible for:

  • Working independently or with minimal supervision to support in research efforts, ensuring consistency and quality of research methods. Typical research you may perform include conducting surveys, interviews, and quantitative analyses, and would be focused on technical, policy, and/or financial implications of renewable energy.
  • Documenting research findings in memos and reports to clients and/or internal project team and managers.
  • Writing sections of reports as assigned, ensuring accuracy of content and adherence to format and other pertinent details.
  • Supporting Cadmus’ QA practice by coordinating and tracking availability among our team of inspectors and engineers.
  • Updating shared calendars and other scheduling tools with specific information about pending inspections and provide support on routine client deliverables, such as weekly progress reports and invoice preparation.
  • Making scheduling calls to residential and commercial customers to explain the inspection process and set inspections for field staff.
  • Analyzing renewable energy data utilizing Excel or other analytical software, identifying trends, summarizing program events, and identifying causal impacts on program results.

Minimum criteria include:

  • Undergraduate degree in public/environmental policy, statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, finance, or related disciplines.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience (including co-ops and previous internships).
  • Excellent writing, communication, organization, quantitative, and critical thinking skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with energy-related terminology including kW, kWh, and demand.
  • Excellent client and project management skills, including being detail-oriented.
  • Courteous and professional communication skills with a wide variety of customers and clients.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with logistical coordination and scheduling.

Ideally, you will be familiar with and passionate about renewable energy, including policies on the federal, regional, and state levels. In addition, you should have foundational knowledge of renewable energy incentives and financial vehicles. Strong quantitative and software skills with applications such as Python, Filemaker, SQL, and similar software tools.
